Day #150: Why I Started Doing What I Do

I hope that you’ve been doing well! Today, I want to talk about how I started doing what I do now – helping you to develop your sports organization by distributing media content.

That's a tweet I found and shared lately, but now let's go over to the story of how the Pressroom mindset started.

It hasn’t always been like that – I used to be a technical guy knowing how computers and the internet work. After school the way to work as software developer was wide open, but time and passion took me into media and sports.

Some of you may have heard bits and pieces of this story, but here’s the full story of how I started doing what I do.

It all started when...

...I was on an inspiring trip in the famous German city Hamburg. Maybe the strong media environment, that city hosts, helped me to think further. At that time, a huge media network stopped reporting on events that did not want to buy advertising on their network. We were not talking about mainstream like the UEFA champions league or soccer at all. We were talking about niche sports. But if the idea would have been successful, it would have been only a matter of time to reach out for the stars.

Even almost a decade later I remember the scenery like it was yesterday. To exaggerate, I said to myself: let's change the game and make them pay for editorial media coverage.

Here are the 3 biggest reasons why I decided to help sports organizations with media relations:

  • to keep them in the media by delivering the best content
  • to make media work easier in a growing media landscape
  • to give them the opportunity of new revenue streams

That was when I realized that I had something huge to share with the world – in the next years we were building the Pressroom solution for professional sports organizations based on this idea and on my technical background. If you are thinking of a sports organization in particular now, please bring them in contact with me. We lend a hand to go #BeyondVictories.

Writing this email has brought back so many good memories!
